MAKATI, Philippines – The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) proudly welcomes its premier cohort for the Master of Science in Financial Technology (MSc FinTech) program, marked by a momentous convocation ceremony held on 20 January 2024. The event witnessed the gathering of guests from the program’s co-facilitator, the UK-based Manchester Metropolitan University, who welcomed the students to a learning journey helmed by two world-class institutions.

AIM President and Dean, Dr. Jikyeong Kang, warmly welcomed the first batch of MSc FinTech students, expressing pride in AIM’s role in pioneering FinTech education in the Philippines. She emphasized AIM’s commitment to fostering innovation in Asia’s financial technology sector and producing industry leaders. Dr. Kang highlighted the potential of FinTech to drive inclusive growth in the country through technologies like AI and blockchain. Assuring students of AIM’s support, she emphasized the institution’s pioneering role in data science education in the Philippines.

Head of the Washington SyCip Graduate School of Business (WSGSB), Professor Felipe Calderon, CPA, CMA, PhD, introduced the event’s keynote speaker, Manchester Metropolitan University’s Faculty Head of International, Professor Liz Warren, PhD. An expert in the field, Dr. Warren shared insights into the global trends shaping the industry and the critical role that graduates from programs like MSc FinTech play in driving innovation and financial inclusion to other parts of the globe. Dr. Warren also underlined the role of AI in the financial technology sector, demonstrating her use of artificial intelligence to produce an impressive video greeting spoken in Filipino.

The Academic Program Director of the MSc FinTech program, Professor Jose “Joey” Vicente Camus took the stage to present a comprehensive rundown of the program. He discussed learning outcomes, program structure, and class profile, providing an overview of the curriculum and the diverse backgrounds of the current cohort. The profile showcased the program’s success in attracting top-tier talent and fostering a rich learning environment that transcends cultural and professional boundaries.

Mr. Michael Christopher Cruz, Vice President and the Head of Usage and Strategic Business of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), as well as a graduate with high distinction of AIM’s Executive MBA program, delivered a speech offering a glimpse into the vibrant student life at AIM. Mr. Cruz shared personal anecdotes and experiences, highlighting the collaborative and supportive class participation sessions, learning teams, and network that define AIM’s campus culture. His speech resonated with the graduating students, encouraging them to carry forward the spirit of camaraderie and excellence into their professional endeavors.
