Profile

   Professor Ortigas is the Pepsi Cola Professor of Business Management, and has been a full-time professor of AIM since 1986. He is currently on work leave as a core faculty member, but continues to teach, as an adjunct faculty member.

 
His teaching assignments run across degree and executive training programs mainly in the areas of Strategic Planning, Entrepreneurship, Total Quality Management, Business Process Reengineering, Electronic Commerce and Electronic Governance, Operations Management and Critical Thinking. He also conducts business games and simulations.
 
Professor Ortigas’ present action research is in the areas of sustainable entrepreneurship, sustainable energy, cultural tourism, blended learning management and electronic governance. Past action research has been in the areas of development management, managing arts and cultural institutions, electronic commerce and knowledge management.
 
His current business ventures are in Hospitality Management Services and Restaurant operations, while previous ventures have been in custom software development. Professor Ortigas’ consulting engagements are primarily in the area of strategic planning for government and private institutions involved in the information and communications technology sector.
 
He continues to perform various administrative functions for the institute. In academic programs he has often been program director (MBA, MM and ME) and MRR coordinator (MBA). His last postings were as assistant dean in ACE and executive managing director for New Program Development.
 
In administration, he has served as Chief Information Officer and chair of the Procurement, Bids, and Awards Committee (PBAC). He has chaired or been a member of various committees such as Rank & Tenure, Process Improvement, ISO 14000, Degree program design (Master in Development Management and Master in Entrepreneurship) and Non-degree program design (electronic governance, managing educational institutions, managing arts and culture institutions, venture in entrepreneurship)
 
Civic and outreach activities continue to be in the areas of information and communications technology development, entrepreneurship development and sustainable creative industry development. He continues to be an active member of the Philippine Computer Society (since 1995). He chaired the Information Technology Technical Panel of the Department of Science and Technology for several years.
 
Professor Ortigas holds a Master in Business Management from the Asian Institute of Management (1983) and a Bachelor in Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Philippines (1979).
